"Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean."

Dear Supporter,

The U.S. Department of Justice is considering whether to prosecute BP for manslaughter in the explosion that killed 11 workers on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico last year. BP could also be charged with deliberately understating the magnitude of the resulting oil gusher in an effort to limit the impact on its stock price.

If BP is not held accountable, its crimes will be repeated. BP has already returned to funding U.S. electoral campaigns. It is receiving major U.S. government contracts. And, it plans to resume drilling in the Gulf of Mexico later this year. Accountability can begin with enforcement of our laws.

BP's Deepwater Horizon accident

This is the letter that will be sent by signing this petition-

Dear Attorney General Holder,

We expect federal prosecutors to be fair and weigh all the evidence. But we also know that corporate criminals whose gross negligence causes death and destruction are often treated much more leniently than actual persons. Please don't allow that to happen in the case of BP.

Signed,

BP Shareholder Meeting tried to deny access for several Gulf Coast Representatives

Check out this article which documents the efforst of BP to try and keep quiet on the truths of the state of the Gulf Coast. And take a look at the statement from Keith Jones and the loss of his son on the oil rig explosion. The effects of this tragedy far extend the marine life disruption, it also disrupted the livelyhoods of many of our fellow workers and communities. Email your local Representatives and make them address this issue to help the Gulf Coast.

Conscious consumerism

Though capitalism appears to be the root cause of many of the world’s problems, it also supplies populations with the tools needed to resolve them: power. Power of the people, that is. With such an emphasis on consumerism, corporations inevitably find themselves dependent on the consumers themselves. It is because of their capacity to manipulate populations into herd mentalities that they have been able to control the thoughts of the masses. If the consumers themselves become aware of these tools of manipulation, they can reclaim that power and force Big Business to listen to their wants and needs. Conscious consumerism is what is required to overcome the status quo.
